WYCF Kroo Bay Community

Kroo Bay is located in Central Freetown. An estimated 10,989 people live in this mud-sand bay, 2015 population and housing census. Since 2009 to 2024 we ran a primary school for 170 children – 107 girls, 63 boys – in the heart of the community. From this base, we also work to raise the living standards of our children’s families.  

In 2024 WYCF closed the school with unanimous agreement with families and community stakeholders as a result of a successful school construction project that WYCF helped design and facilitated.

WYCF remain in the community, currently we are constructing a Skill development training centre in collaboration with MAKEIMPACT Sierra Leone organisation based in the Netherlands in partnership with Mercyships Netherlands with the aim of providing a second chance for young people caught up in crime and violence and drug, including those living and surviving on the street and dumpsite. The project will empower 500 young people in five years span in Carpentry and woodwork, welding and metal work, Aluminium work tailoring and fashion design, digital and soft skills, Digital marketing and entrepreneurship.
