The Wegdam Vocational Institute Kamakwie is a branch of the Wegdam Vocational Institute and Technology which headquater in based in Freetown. The skill training centre provides a second chance for teenage mothers, adolescent girls and other young people who dropped out of school or never have the chance to go to school. This is a programme created not only to empower the women with numeracy and literacy skills but also empower them with the practical skills that will help them become employable and entrepreneurs. They will be able to train other apprentices at community level and secure contracts in their respect field of study ie catering and food preservation, tailoring and dressmaking, local weaving. The women, girls and young boys in the tailoring and dressmaking skills will be trained to produce locally made safe reusable sanitary pads to address menstruation.
